Dental implants are one of modern dentistry’s greatest achievements. They offer a permanent solution for missing teeth that look, feel, and function just like real teeth. When you lose a tooth because of injury, decay, or disease, it affects more than just your smile. Missing teeth can impact your ability to eat, speak clearly, and feel confident in social situations.

Unlike temporary and removable solutions, dental implants are a strong foundation for replacement teeth by fusing with your jawbone. This restorative dentistry approach preserves bone structure, prevents facial sagging, and delivers long-lasting results that can last a lifetime.

Dr. Erik Jenson uses advanced digital technology to place dental implants. From in-office 3D imaging to surgical-guided oral surgery, your experience in our office will support a stable, lasting outcome. Dr. Jenson takes the time to evaluate all aspects of your oral health as part of the treatment process, addressing any concerns along the way to ensure success.

Types of Dental Implants

We offer comprehensive implant dentistry services tailored to your unique needs. Whether you need to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all your teeth, our experienced team can help. We’re here to help you get beautiful, functional teeth.

Single Tooth Implants

Maybe you lost one tooth, a back molar you don’t think about much, or a front tooth that you think about every time you look in the mirror. A single tooth implant is the closest thing to growing a new tooth.

We place a small titanium post into your jawbone where your old tooth root used to be. Over a few months, that post fuses with your bone, becoming part of you. Then we attach a custom-made crown on top. The crown matches the color, shape, and size of your other teeth.

We don’t have to grind down your healthy neighboring teeth like we would for a bridge. Your natural teeth stay exactly as they are, and the implant keeps your jawbone healthy by providing the stimulation it needs.

Anyone missing a single tooth who wants a permanent, natural-looking solution should contact us.

Multiple Tooth Implants

Missing several teeth in a row, or in different spots around your mouth? You have options at our Vancouver dental practice. We can place two or more implant posts in your jawbone to support a bridge or partial denture. The result is secure, stable teeth that don’t shift, click, or float around as removable partials can.

How many implants do you need? That depends on your bone density, where the gaps are, and your overall oral health. Dr. Jenson will walk you through the math during your consultation.

Call us if you are missing several teeth and want something more stable than a removable partial denture.

All-on-Four Implants

If you have lost most or all of your teeth or your remaining teeth are failing, this option can change your life.

Here is the genius of All-on-4, or “Teeth in a Day.” Instead of placing an implant for every single tooth (which would be 10-14 implants per jaw), we place just four implants in strategic positions.

Two go in the front of your jaw, straight up and down. Two go in the back, angled to take advantage of the densest bone. That angled placement is the secret sauce. It allows us to skip bone grafting entirely, even if you have been told in the past that you do not have enough bone for implants.

In many cases, you can walk out of our office the same day with a temporary set of teeth. After your implants heal (usually a few months), we replace the temporary teeth with a permanent, custom-made set that looks and feels like your natural teeth.

Call us if you have lost most or all of your teeth and want a permanent solution, not removable dentures that float and click.

Why Dr. Jenson’s Approach Is Different

A lot of dentists place implants. But not all of them think about how those implants will work with your bite, your jaw joints, and your other teeth.

Because Dr. Jenson is Dawson-trained, he takes a “Complete Dentistry” approach. That means he looks at the big picture. He checks how your jaw moves and looks for signs of grinding or clenching. He makes sure your bite is stable before he places anything permanent.

Why does that matter? Because an implant placed in an unstable bite can fail, crack, or loosen. It can even cause jaw pain or headaches that you didn’t have before.

Dr. Jenson wants your implants to last decades, not just years. That starts with getting the foundation right.

The Dental Implant Process at Hazel Dell Dental Care

Understanding the dental implant journey helps patients feel more comfortable and prepared. You can get an implant crown, bridge, or denture in a couple of office visits.

With Dr. Jenson’s Dawson-trained approach, our process is as comfortable as possible. We will walk you through every step. You will never feel lost or confused. Here is how it works.

Step 1: Your First Visit

Every implant journey starts with a conversation. Dr. Jenson wants to hear your story and get to know you. How long have you been missing teeth? Have you had problems with dentures? Do you have jaw pain or headaches that might be related?

Then he looks at the big picture. He examines your teeth, gums, and jaw joints. He takes X-rays and 3D scans to see your bone density. This step is about making sure implants are right for you and that they will work in harmony with your bite and jaw.

Step 2: Getting Your Mouth Ready

Sometimes, your mouth needs a little prep work before implants can go in. Maybe you have a tooth that needs to come out first, or your jawbone is too thin or soft to support an implant. This is common if you have been missing teeth for a while. In that case, Dr. Jenson might recommend a bone graft to build up the area.

Maybe you have gum disease that needs treatment first. Putting implants into unhealthy gums is like building a house on a shaky foundation. We want your foundation to be solid.

Dr. Jenson will explain everything and recommend only what is truly necessary.

Step 3: Implant Placement Day

Here is what actually happens. Dr. Jenson numbs the area (we also offer sedation if you are nervous). He makes a tiny incision in your gum and gently places the titanium post into your jawbone. Then he stitches the gum closed over or around the implant.

For a single implant, the procedure takes about an hour. For multiple implants or All-on-4, it takes longer. But you will not feel pain during the procedure. Most patients tell us it was easier than they expected.

Step 4: Healing

After the implant is placed, your jawbone starts to grow around the titanium post, fusing with it as if it were always there. This process is called osseointegration.

It takes about three to six months. During that time, you go about your normal life. You can eat soft foods at first, then gradually return to your normal diet.

If you are getting All-on-4 implants, you usually get a temporary set of teeth the same day as surgery. So you never have to walk around without teeth.

Step 5: Connecting the Abutment

Once your implant is fully fused with your bone, Dr. Jenson uncovers the implant and attaches a small connector piece called an abutment. This is the “adapter” between the implant and your new tooth.

This is a much smaller procedure than the implant placement. Think of it like putting the finishing touch on.

Step 6: Your New Tooth

Dr. Jenson attaches your custom-made crown (for a single tooth), bridge (for multiple teeth), or full arch of teeth (for All-on-4). The restoration is made to match your natural teeth in color, shape, and size.

You’ll look in the mirror and see a complete smile. You might not even remember which tooth was missing.

Step 7: Keeping Your Implant Healthy for Life

Your new implant doesn’t need special products or complicated routines. Brush it, floss, and see Dr. Jenson for regular checkups. That’s it!

With good care, your implant can last decades. That’s the beauty of choosing a Dawson-trained dentist who gets the foundation right from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have more questions about implants? We can help. Read answers to common questions about dental implants in our Vancouver, MA, office.

Are dental implants painful?

Most patients report that dental implant surgery involves less discomfort than they expected. Local anesthesia ensures you don’t feel pain during the procedure, and sedation options are available for anxious patients. After surgery, you can manage mild discomfort with over-the-counter or prescribed pain medications.

How long do dental implants last?

With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last decades or even a lifetime. The implant post itself has a success rate of over 95% at 10 years. The visible portion (crown) may need replacement after 10-15 years due to normal wear and tear.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

Most adults with good general and oral health are candidates for dental implants. Key factors include having adequate jawbone density to support implants and healthy gums free of gum disease. Even if you’ve been told you lack sufficient bone, solutions like bone grafting or All-on-Four implants may still make implant treatment possible.

How much do dental implants cost?

The cost of dental implants varies. It’s based on factors such as the number of implants needed, whether you need pre-treatments, the type of restoration, and the location of your missing teeth. While implants typically involve a higher initial investment than other tooth replacement options, their longevity and health benefits often make them more cost-effective over time.

How do I care for my dental implants?

Caring for dental implants is similar to caring for natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are important. While implants cannot develop cavities, the surrounding gum tissue can become infected without proper care. Our dentist will provide specific instructions for maintaining your implants.

Can I get implants if I’ve worn dentures for years?

Yes, many long-term denture wearers successfully transition to dental implants. Even after years of wearing dentures and experiencing some bone loss, options like bone grafting or All-on-Four implants can often provide solutions. Implants offer a welcome relief from the challenges of removable dentures.
